BYD’s Bus Drives Over 10 Billion Kilometers

Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD announced on Friday that the total mileage of its buses has exceeded 10 billion kilometers to date. Each electric bus has already exceeded 640,000 kilometers, which is equivalent to 16 laps around the earth’s equator, setting a new record.

In 2011, BYD delivered 200 K9 pure electric buses to serve the 26th Summer Universiade held in Shenzhen. The deployment was the commercial operation of the first batch of pure electric buses at scale in the world. By the end of 2017, all public transport vehicles in Shenzhen had been converted to electric power. Shenzhen took the lead in embarking on a sustainable development path of the new energy vehicle industry.

BYD also announced the new K8 with a mileage of more than 640,000 kilometers. The bus came from the Shenzhen Bus Group and was put into operation in December 2015. At present, it has served nearly one million passengers and has a total one way mileage of 37.67 kilometers.

Up until now, BYD has delivered more than 70,000 pure electric buses worldwide, covering cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai, as well as well-known foreign cities such as London, Paris and Milan. BYD’s products not only contribute to Chinese development in the global bus trade, but also boost overall energy conservation and emission reduction.

Under the guise of the accelerated transformation of the new energy vehicle industry and carbon emission reduction goal in China, BYD’s new energy vehicles have covered more than 70 countries and regions around the world, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 10.19 million tons, equivalent to planting 850 million trees.
