ByteDance’s overseas AI assistant Dola hits 10 million daily active users, marking a key milestone in the company’s global AI expansion.
On December 31, 2025, ByteDance announced that its overseas AI assistant app Dola has exceeded 10 million daily active users (DAU). The app focuses on conversational Q&A, writing, translation, and image generation, and is positioned on Google Play as an “all-in-one assistant for writing, thinking, and creativity.”

Dola originated as the AI assistant Cici, launched in August 2023, primarily serving emerging markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and Latin America. Its design closely resembled ByteDance’s domestic AI assistant Doubao, differing mainly in icon hair length. By the end of 2025, it was officially rebranded as Dola.
Sources indicate that Dola has seen rapid growth in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Mexico since the second half of 2025. Third-party data show that since October, Dola ranked among the top 20 free app downloads on Google Play in Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, and the UK, including a week-long streak as the #1 daily download in Mexico.
Notably, ByteDance’s domestic AI assistant Doubao has surpassed 100 million daily active users, becoming China’s first independent AI app to reach this milestone. This demonstrates ByteDance’s global breakthrough in the AI assistant market. However, Dola still faces competition from ChatGPT, Gemini, and other rivals, highlighting the need for differentiated features and localized capabilities to enhance user engagement.
