ByteDance Denies Developing Game Similar to Genshin Impact
Tech Planet reported on Monday that Nuverse, a company owned by Beijing-based technology giant ByteDance, is planning to develop a 3D open world game similar to Genshin Impact. Specifically, its Studio 101 in Hangzhou is responsible for the new game, and is now recruiting employees for related positions.
Regarding the news, a spokesperson for Nuverse responded to Sina Tech, asserting, “The information is not true, and there is no plan to develop products similar to Genshin Impact.”
After having released Genshin Impact for less than a week, the game’s developer miHoYo has seen high earnings. According to public data, miHoYo earned $60 million from this mobile game within one week, surpassing PUBG and second only to Honor of Kings, which earned $64 million.
According to the latest data from Sensor Tower, the overseas revenue of Genshin Impact mobile terminal increased by 51% month-on-month in January, 2022, and earned more than other mobile games in overseas markets in January 2022.
The unprecedented presence of Genshin Impact has also caused Tencent to sit up and take notice. LatePost reported that in the second half of 2020, Tencent contacted miHoYo and proposed investment.
Recently, it was reported that Lightspeed LA Studio, owned by Lightspeed & Quantum Studios based in Los Angeles, is developing a 3A open world game. The new 3A-level game presents a brand-new original IP and features high-cost, high-quality and high-volume characteristics.
miHoYo is actively responding to the actions taken by other parties. It launched the cloud version of Genshin Impact, an attempt to occupy the lightweight cloud game ecology. Recently, miHoYo announced the official launch of a brand-new forward-looking brand HoYoverse, which creates and delivers immersive virtual world experiences for players globally through various entertainment services.
