Cainiao Network CEO: Average Daily Cross-Border Parcels Exceed 5 Million
On Thursday, at Alibaba‘s Investor Day 2021, Wan Lin, CEO of Cainiao Network, said that Cainiao has continuously invested in global logistics infrastructure over the last eight years. In March 2021, the average daily cross-border parcels had exceeded 5 million pieces, reaching the same level as international logistics giants.
In 2021, despite the impact of the global epidemic, delivery express volume in China reached 100 billion units in 2021, the first time it has ever done so. The country’s post office has ranked first in the world for eight consecutive years, with an average daily service of nearly 700 million packages handled. Although the epidemic has brought great challenges to the logistics industry in China and the world, it has created greater opportunities and stronger demand.
Wan Lin noted during the Investor Day, “China’s e-commerce exports jumped 40.1% in 2020 from a year earlier and Cainiao is riding this wave by providing affordable and efficient shipment. Users can ship parcels to every corner of the world for the price of a cup of coffee. Delivery for parcels within ten days costs $5 and is available in more than 20 countries, while $2 shipping will take 20 days and is available in over 50 countries. Cainiao ships more than 4 million parcels daily from China.”
Taking Cainiao’s consumer logistics service as an example, through digital transformation, Cainiao’s express delivery stations around the country are developing from terminal logistics facilities to digital community service centers. In 2021, Cainiao launched its home delivery service, increased unmanned vehicle distribution, and added other services such as recycling, retail, laundry.
In Wan Lin’s view, logistics is a huge and systematic industry. “We believe that by building a worldwide logistics hub, overseas warehouses and distribution centers all over key markets, we can participate in an establishment of an advantage that matches the advantages of China’s industrial chain.”
