CATL Completes Largest 5G Corporate Network in China
CATL, a leading power battery manufacturer, announced on Monday that it had completed building the largest 5G corporate network in China. The network covers a total area of more than 5 million square meters across six provinces and seven bases, including Fujian, Jiangsu and Sichuan.
The company has developed 22 high-value business scenarios and has landed nine types of 5G convergence applications. Chen Ling, Chief Information Officer of CATL, said that CATL’s 5G network would cover ten bases around the world.
To address the increasingly complex manufacturing process while meeting the demand for high-quality products, CATL has constructed a unique manufacturing architecture that employs artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, digital twin, edge computing, RF technology, and 5G. In this process, 5G, as a base, plays a fundamental role. The company has built an industrial Internet architecture based on 5G, relying on its high bandwidth, low latency and wide connectivity technical advancement to solve the pain points of the most demanding manufacturing businesses.
5G and augmented reality (AR) significantly reduce the number of company personnel traveling on public transportation. For example, an annual reduction of about 1,000 trips could cut carbon emissions by as much as 2,566 tons. Today, the factory has completely eliminated the use of paper documents on site, eliminating 2,141 paper forms, with an estimated annual paper savings equivalent to cutting down 7,516 fewer mature trees.
The company’s financial report shows that in Q1, 2022, CATL earned about 48.68 billion yuan ($7.28 billion), a year-on-year increase of 153.97%. Net profits were 1.493 billion yuan, down 23.62% year-on-year. In 2021, CATL garnered a total operating income of 130.356 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 159.06% while the net profit was 15.93 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 185.34%.
