CATL Rival Sunwoda EVB Release New Battery to Support 1,000km Cruising Range

At the 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition on April 18th, Sunwoda EVB, a Chinese battery manufacturer, introduced its latest research and development breakthrough – the “flash charging battery”. This innovative technology enables electric vehicles to travel up to 1000 kilometers on a single charge and can be charged from 20% to 80% in just ten minutes.

Currently, Sunwoda EVB is a battery manufacturer that integrates research and development, production, and sales of battery cells, modules, battery management systems, and packs. The company has also announced plans for fast-charging batteries. The square-shaped 1.0 version fast-charging battery has already been mass-produced while the 1.0 plus version has completed its design phase. The 2.0 version will be launched in late 2023 or early 2024. Additionally, the cylindrical fast-charging battery is expected to complete first-generation development by 2023 and can be used in models with a cruising range of approximately 800 kilometers.

Sunwoda EVB ensures the quality management of its batteries through three digital platforms: a smart battery manufacturing platform, an integrated battery quality platform, and a large-scale data protection platform for battery applications. The power battery status evaluation and safety warning system is particularly noteworthy as it can determine the state of the battery and provide warnings about thermal runaway using cloud data, ground detection, and vehicle edge computing.

The company will invest heavily in scientific research to develop battery cells and modules with high energy density and fast charging performance, now that flash charging batteries have been introduced.

During the press conference, Sunwoda EVB signed a contract with VREMT, which is a subsidiary of Geely Group. VREMT specializes in producing new energy vehicle batteries, electric motors, electric control systems, charging systems and energy storage systems. The two companies will collaborate to conduct extensive research on ultra-fast charging batteries.
