CATL to Provide Battery Capacity for SUVs Owned by Fisker in 2023-2025

On Tuesday, Fisker, an American electric vehicle start-up, published an article on its official website announcing its cooperation with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), a lithium battery giant. The article shows that Fisker and CATL confirmed a formal agreement to ensure the battery capacity of Fisker’s high-end pure electric SUV named – “Ocean”. CATL agreed to provide more than 5GWh of battery capacity for the new lineup of SUVs and will also produce small lithium iron phosphate battery packs and large nickel manganese cobalt battery packs for the vehicle.

According to the agreement, CATL will provide Fisker with two different battery solutions for its SUV, including a lithium nickel manganese cobalt chemical battery and the latest chemical battery based on lithium ion phosphate. From 2023 to 2025, the initial battery capacity provided by CATL will be more than 5GWh per year.

The batteries supplied have strict requirements. In addition to meeting the stringent packaging requirements of the Fisker Ocean, the new battery pack also has to allow direct charging from the optional solar roof.

Both battery packs have bene designed to support charging power exceeding 250 kW.

According to the plan, Fisker will exhibit the production-ready version of Ocean, as well as optional battery specifications and product features at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17, 2021, and then start production and deliveries of the vehicle in November 2022.
