CEO Ding Lei: NetEase Ready For Metaverse
According to a report by STAR Market Daily on Wednesday, Chinese Internet technology company NetEase revealed that to aim at the landing of the Metaverse, the company has been recruiting talent such as engineers of virtual scenario construction and virtual characters. It is reported that the recruitment is open to talent from the artificial intelligence (AI) field, with starting annual salary of one million yuan.
At the same time, NetEase Cloud and NetEase Fuxi Lab launched the first “virtual character + RTC (Real-Time Communication)” SDK. Based on this converged SDK, the company generated real-time interactive solutions for NetEase Yunxin virtual characters. This solution is also able to realize real-time interactions of virtual characters.
In addition, Netease also announced its financial report for the third quarter of 2021 on November 16. In the third quarter, Netease‘s net income reached 22.191 billion yuan ($3.48 billion), a year-on-year increase of 19%. The company’s net profit was 3.323 billion yuan.
After the release of the company’s financial report, Netease CEO Ding Lei responded to analysts’ questions at the ensuing conference meeting, saying that “Metaverse is indeed a very heatedly discussed concept, and Netease is ready at all levels of technology and planning.”

According to Tianyancha, a commercial inquiry platform, since October 2021, several NetEase affiliated companies have applied for registration of trademarks such as “NetEase Metaverse” and “Leihuo Metaverse”. The international classification of these trademarks involve advertisement, education and entertainment. The current trademark status is awaiting review.
