At the Changan Automobile Technology Ecological Conference held on August 24, Zhu Huarong, Chairman of Changan Automobile, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, and Zeng Yuqun, Chairman of CATL announced a new high-end intelligent mid-sized all-electric SUV built by Avatr Technology. Internally codenamed N11, this new model was co-developed by the afore-mentioned three parties. The vehicle is currently undergoing a debugging process and should be released by the end of this year.
At the conference, Changan Automobile only released the picture in profile view to show the new car. This model will be equipped with Huawei’s HI (Huawei Inside) intelligent vehicle full-stack solution and the latest electrification technology of CATL.
Zhu Huarong revealed for the first time last year that the company was working with Huawei and CATL to build a brand-new high-end intelligent vehicle brand. On May 20 this year, Changan Automobile announced that Changan-Nio New Energy Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., its joint venture subsidiary, had officially changed its name to Avatr Technology Co, Ltd.
According to Tianyancha, the registered capital of this new company is 288 million yuan ($44.45 million) with Tan Benhong, Executive Vice President of Changan Automobile, who is now the Chairman and CEO of Avatr Technology, being the corporate leader. The company’s business scope covers the design and development of new energy vehicles and parts, automobile sales and related after-sales services.

Among the companies involved, Huawei will cooperate with Avatr by supplying its ICT technology to provide a intelligent full-stack vehicle solution. CATL will offer intelligent electric vehicle power battery technology while Changan Automobile will be responsible for the building of the intelligent electric networked automobile platform (CHN) based on the technology of Huawei and CATL.
Earlier, Zhu Huarong also said that Avatr Technology operated independently and its future share listing was being planned.
According to Auto-First, new energy vehicles are the future development direction of Changan Automobile. In 2017, the company released and promoted the “Shangri-La Plan” aiming to completely stop selling traditional fuel vehicles and realize the electrification of all products by 2025. As one of the important sub-steps, the company is planning to complete the construction of three special platforms for new energy vehicles by 2020. The internal codes of these three platforms are EPA0, EPA1 and EPA2 respectively.
Changan Automobile, Huawei and CATL will give full play to their respective advantages in the fields of whole vehicle integration, software technology and batteries, and jointly build the CHN platform. EPA0, EPA1 and other platforms will be also further upgraded. A total of 11 brand-new products will be developed in the future.
