Changan Automobiles Releases L3 Autonomous Driving System
On March 10, Chongqing-based Changan Automobiles released its L3 autonomous driving system, which will be equipped on all recently released UNI-T models. Changan President Zhu Huarong personally piloted the new system, driving 23 km in a Changan UNI-T during an hour-long online live broadcast event.
The L3 autonomous system uses 5 mm-wave sensors, 6 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to enable environmental detection. The L3 level is classified by increased autonomy with its ability to identify vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, lane lines, guardrails, and traffic signs, combined with high-precision mapping information. The system can also monitor a driver’s level of fatigue to provide further context for decision making. However, the system may require a human to take over at certain times.
Changan has struggled this year, selling only 134,578 vehicles in January compared to 141,006 vehicles in the same month last year. Last week, the company announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bank Alfalah Pakistan to grow its market position in Pakistan.
