China-made Tesla Model Y Performance Model Equipped with 12V Lithium-Ion Battery
According to Torque News’s report on Monday, some owners of the performance version of China-made Model Y found that the model is equipped with the new 12V lithium-ion battery.
The Tesla Model Y entered the Chinese market for the first time on January 1, 2021 and started delivery three weeks later on January 18, 2021.
At present, Tesla sells three versions of its popular Model Y in China, namely a rear-wheel drive model, a long-endurance model, and a performance model. Among them, the performance model can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h and a cruising range of 566 km, sold at a price of 387,900 yuan ($60,889).
Tesla Shanghai Super Factory recently started the delivery of the China-made Model Y performance model. After checking the power configuration of this model, some car owners found that Tesla had replaced the 12V lead-acid battery with the 12V lithium-ion battery.
The 12V lithium-ion battery is much smaller than conventional lead-acid batteries used in petrol cars, which allows Tesla to save space in the front of the car. Also, this kind of battery also has a longer life cycle.
