China Sees Increased June Mobile Phone Shipments of 28M Units
According to a report released on July 20 by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), in June, the domestic market shipped 28.017 million mobile phones, up 9.2% year-on-year, among which 23.027 million units were 5G mobile phones, up 16.3% year-on-year, accounting for 82.2% of all mobile phone shipments in the same period.
From January to June this year, phone shipments in the Chinese market totaled 136 million units, down 21.7% year-on-year. Specifically, the amount of 5G phones shipped were 109 million units, down 14.5% year-on-year, accounting for 80.2% overall.
In June, 34 new mobile phone models entered the market in China, up 6.3% year-on-year, 25 of which were 5G phones, up 25.0% year-on-year, and accounting for 73.5% of all new mobile phone models introduced in June. From January to June, a total of 201 new models were listed, down 5.6% year-on-year, including 112 5G models.
Domestic mobile phone brands shipped 24.514 million units in June, launching 32 new models. From January to June, shipments of domestic brands’ phones totaled 115 million units, down 25.9% year-on-year, and 192 new demestic models were launched, down 1.0% year-on-year.
Smartphone shipments reached 27.478 million units in June, accounting for 98.1% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. From January to June 2022, 134 million smartphones were shipped, accounting for 98.2% of all mobile phone shipments in the same period.

In June, 28 new smartphone models were launched, down 6.7% year-on-year, while from January to June, a total of 168 new smartphone models were launched, down 4.0% year-on-year.
