China Starts Scientific Expedition to Mount Everest in 2023
On May 22nd, according to the Second Comprehensive Scientific Expedition Team of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the comprehensive scientific expedition and research on the extremely high altitude area of Mount Everest in Tibet will be carried out in 2023.
A total of 170 members from five scientific investigation teams and thirteen scientific investigation groups will continue to focus on water, ecology, human activities, revealing the mechanism of changes in the earth system of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and optimizing its ecological security barrier system.
The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is the roof of the world and Asia’s water tower. It is an important ecological security barrier for China, as well as a “natural laboratory” for studying the evolution of earth and life, interactions between spheres, and human-environment relationships.
The Mount Everest expedition is an important part of the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition, which has significant implications for understanding how climate change affects other regions around the world.
