On Wednesday, real-time monitoring data of parcels and express packages handled by China’s State Post Bureau showed that delivery volume in China reached 100 billion units in 2021, the first time it has ever done so. The country’s post office has ranked first in the world for eight consecutive years, with an average daily service of nearly 700 million packages handled.
In the first 11 months of this year, national express delivery volumes exceeded 90 billion units, compared with 83.36 billion last year. According to data from the State Post Bureau, between 2010 and 2020, the growth rate of express delivery in China remained above 25%, and from 2011 to 2016, the growth rate of express delivery even remained above 48%.
Xu Yong, Vice President of the express branch of China Communications and Transportation Association, said that the express delivery industry helps connect producers and consumers and is an important part of the modern service industry. The express delivery business volume acts as the “weather vane” of economic development of a country.
With regard to the protection of the rights and interests of express delivery employees, on November 9, the State Post Bureau said that it would strengthen the guidance and supervision of express delivery enterprises, further promote enterprises to improve the management and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of couriers.
On December 3, Ma Junsheng, Director of the State Post Bureau, presided over a telephone symposium of express delivery enterprises. At the meeting, Ma emphasized that express delivery enterprises should consolidate their work achievements in maintaining the stability of the express delivery network and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of their couriers. By doing so, unfair competition andacts that harm the interests of the industry and employees can be avoided.
Ma said that express delivery enterprises should strengthen their infrastructure construction. Companies should also strengthen the operation of express delivery networks by utilizing innovative and technological improvements. In addition, they have to promote express delivery to rural areas and continuously strengthen the role of postal express delivery as the main channel for the communication of urban and rural areas. Moreover, It is necessary for companies to seize the opportunity of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to expand into overseas markets.
