China’s Postal Industry Expects Average Daily Delivery Business Volume to be Over 150 Billion Pieces by 2025

The People’s Republic of China State Post Bureau, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport jointly issued a notice titled “Postal Industry Development Plan during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period“. On Tuesday, the State Post Bureau held a special press conference to release and gave the Plan a close reading.

At present, the development of the postal industry is still in an important period of progress wherein opportunities outweigh challenges. The nation needs deliveries for a better life, while the international environment is becoming increasingly complex. The COVID-19 epidemic has had a wide impact and have increased global instability and uncertainty.

The Plan puts forward five goals: scalable strength, basic networking, innovative ability, service level and governance efficiency, and also outlines 12 indicators, such as postal business income, access rate of express services in established villages, 72-hour punctuality rate of express services in key areas, increase of R&D expenditure of eight head enterprises (CR8), and the quantity of recyclable express packaging, among others.

It is estimated that by 2025, the annual business income of the postal industry will exceed 1.8 trillion yuan ($28.2 billion), the average daily service users of the postal industry will be more than 900 million, and the express delivery business volume will exceed 150 billion pieces, forming a number of postal express delivery brands with an annual business volume exceeding 20 billion pieces or an annual business income exceeding 200 billion yuan.
