Chinese tech giants Xiaomi, Huawei and Tencent made the Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators 2020, an annual list released by Clarivate Analytics to celebrate the world’s most innovative organizations.
This year’s Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators come from 14 countries and regions, with the United States and Japan in the lead with 39 and 32 organizations respectively. The remaining 29 spots were occupied by organizations from other countries in Europe, Asia and North America.
Regarding the industry distribution, Hardware & Electronics lead with 38 companies, 3 more than last year, followed by Manufacturing & Medical with 16, and Telecoms and Software with 8 each.
Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi has been listed for the second year in a row, joined by two other tech companies from the Chinese mainland – Huawei, who had previously made the list five times, and Tencent earning its first mention.
Now in its ninth year, Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators uses patent data from Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI) and Derwent Patent Citations Index (DPCI) to evaluate innovativeness of companies based on the candidates’ volume, influence, success and globalization.
