Chinese Electric Vehicle Makers Provide May Delivery Updates

At the beginning of June, Chinese electric vehicle makers scrambled to unveil their delivery volumes for the month of May, including NIO, Li Auto, XPeng, Geely-backed Zeekr, and others.

NIO delivered 7,024 vehicles in the month of May with deliveries consisting of 5,317 premium smart electric SUVs, including 746 ES8s, 2,936 ES6s and 1,635 EC6s, and 1,707 ET7s, the company’s flagship premium smart electric sedan. The company claimed that its vehicle production has been gradually recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 outbreaks in certain regions throughout China while vehicle deliveries were still constrained by preventive measures.

Li Auto announced that the company had delivered 11,496 Li ONEs in May, up 165.9% year over year. The cumulative deliveries of the Li ONE have reached 171,467 since the vehicle’s market debut in 2019. Its Changzhou manufacturing base has not yet returned to its normal production levels which has resulted in a delay in deliveries to some of its customers.

XPeng delivered 10,125 Smart EVs in May, representing a 78% increase year-over-year. The company’s May deliveries consisted of 4,224 P7 smart sports sedans, 3,686 P5 smart family sedans, as well as 2,215 G3 smart compact SUVs. The company resumed a double-shift production schedule at its Zhaoqing plant beginning in mid-May as supply chains and key manufacturing areas in China started to gradually recover.

AITO, developed by Huawei and Seres, has delivered 5,006 units of its AITO M5 model in May, driving its accumulated deliveries to 11,296 units as of May 31. Geely-backed Zeekr delivered 4,330 units of its 001 model in May, up 102.6% from the previous month. Leapmotor, which is striving for a Hong Kong IPO, reported 10,069 deliveries in May, a record high and marks a year-on-year growth of over 200% for 14 consecutive months. NETA Auto’s delivery in May reached 11,009 units, up 144% year on year, while its cumulative delivery volume from January to May was 49,974 units.
