Chinese Ranks Second on Hurun U40 Billionaires List 2023

On April 6th, the Hurun Research Institute released the “2023 Hurun Global Self-Made Under-40 Billionaires List”. The list shows that as of January 16th, there are a total of 59 self-made billionaires under the age of 40 worldwide. Among them, there are 23 people from the United States and 18 people from China, ranking first and second respectively. India and the United Kingdom ranked third and fourth.

Among them, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta (formerly Facebook), became the richest self-made billionaire under 40 in the world with a wealth of 455 billion yuan (about 66 billion dollars). This is also his eighth time topping the list. Zhang Yiming, founder of ByteDance, ranked second on the list with a wealth of 250 billion yuan (about 36 billion dollars).

The founder of the fast fashion cross-border e-commerce platform SHEIN, Chris Xu, made his debut on the list for the first time and entered the top ten. He ranked eighth with a fortune of 50 billion yuan (about 7 billion dollars), an increase of 19% from 2022.

In the 2023 list, there are 14 new entrepreneurs listed as newcomers. Among these new faces, miHoYo, the production company of “Genshin Impact”, became the biggest winner with its three founders ranking in the top three.

The 36-year-old founder Cai Haoyu ranks 18th on the list with a wealth of 21 billion yuan (about 3 billion dollars). The other two founders of miHoYo, Liu Wei and Luo Yuhao, ranked in the top 30 of the list with wealths of 11.5 billion yuan and 11 billion yuan respectively.

The founder of Lilith Games, Wang Xinwen, also entered the top 30 of the U40 rich list with a wealth of 9 billion yuan.
