CSOT Unveils First Two-in-One Smartphone Featuring Scroll and Folding Screen
On Tuesday, a Weibo user nicknamed ‘@Gaoji Wang Tengxiao‘ posted a video unveiling China-based display maker China Star Optoelectronics Technology’s latest prototype. This smartphone is foldable, and its screen can be further expanded to the left after being unfolded, thus perfectly combining the scroll screen with the folding screen. This model is the first in the industry to integrate the two screens.
In fact, this prototype was displayed by CSOT at the 2021 Global Display Ecosystem Conference (DTC 2021) held on November 16. This prototype the integrates scroll and folding screen into a single unit, and thus it can be folded and can be expanded into a 10-inch tablet after unfolding some hidden screens. This is the industry’s first smartphone in such a form.
CSOT, owned by TCL, claims that the scheme is still in the prototype stage, but it has asked manufacturers to test the screen scheme, which might be put into mass production and commercial use in 2022.
At the “OPPO INNO DAY 2020,” electronics firm OPPO released a concept smartphone featuring a scroll screen named OPPO X 2021. In the case of the OPPO scroll-screen smartphone, the model can automatically adjust the screen size in line with 16:9, 4:3 or any other picture ratio. The screen can be expanded from 6.7 inches to 7.4 inches, and can be fully unfolded by sliding the power unlock key.
