Didi Tests “Choose Female Driver” Feature, Exclusively for Verified Female Passengers
In early July of this year, Didi initiated a public review meeting with the topic “What features do you want Didi to provide?”, and held an online vote. On Thursday, the official announcement states that, in response to the voting results, special teams have been formed to develop the desired features.
According to the voting results, 24.2% of the participants wished for the option to choose female drivers, which received the highest number of votes. The next most popular demands were for features to “block cars with bad odors” and “pet express.”
At present, the features allowing female passengers to choose female drivers, pet express, Didi charter, and blocking cars with bad odors have completed the first phase of product development. These features are being tested on a small scale in a few cities. Subsequently, users will be invited to participate in beta testing, and these features will be gradually launched in more cities. It’s worth mentioning that the feature allowing female passengers to choose female drivers can only be used after female users have completed real-name authentication.
Many users have been eagerly awaiting the launch of these new features. They believe that the “option to choose female drivers” can effectively enhance user experience and safety during actual use. At the same time, some users are concerned that this new feature may lead to unfair competition or abuse.
Didi has previously faced serious allegations of sexual harassment from female passengers. In a notable incident from May 2017, a Chinese woman reported witnessing her Didi driver masturbating while operating the vehicle. Furthermore, in 2018, another Didi driver was implicated in a sexual harassment case. The victim publicly asserted that Didi had neglected her complaints, fueling concerns about the company’s handling of such serious issues.
