DJI Automotive Unveils New Generation of Intelligent Driving Solution

DJI Automotive, a subsidiary of DJI, announced its latest intelligent driving solutions at the China EV100 Forum on April 2. The company claimed that this solution can achieve L2+ intelligent driving functions like urban memory driving and navigation without relying on high-precision maps or lidar technology. Instead, it uses strong visual online real-time perception to navigate through cities. This solution is currently available and DJI Automotive is collaborating with automakers to promote mass production.

Currently, the industry is engaged in a heated debate regarding the removal of high-precision maps from urban navigation assistance for driving. This has become a popular trend among leading companies. DJI Automotive has stated that since its team’s inception, it has been committed to developing technology that relies on visual online real-time perception while minimizing or eliminating dependence on external data and expensive sensors.

Specifically, DJI Automotive’s new intelligent driving solution has two different versions.

The standard package comprises 7 cameras with a computing power of 32 TOPS. It consists of two front-view inertial navigation stereo binocular cameras, one rear-view monocular camera, and four panoramic fisheye cameras. With its real-time perception and decision-making planning ability, it can perform various functions such as parking assistance, memory parking, cross-layer memory parking, memory driving and high-speed navigation without the need for high-precision maps.

The advanced version of this product enhances computing power up to 80 TOPS and includes two additional side-view monocular cameras. With a total of nine cameras, it can perform tasks such as parking assistance, highway navigation assistance, and urban navigation assistance without requiring high-precision maps. This version is capable of achieving autonomous driving on fixed routes in urban areas.

Furthermore, DJI Automotive has announced that their visual-assisted driving system is compatible with additional sensors such as millimeter wave radar, ultrasonic radar, lidar, and high-precision maps.

DJI Automotive considers the cost of an L2+ intelligent driving system to be reasonable, accounting for 5% to 8% of a vehicle’s selling price. To achieve this level of intelligence, it is necessary to keep the price range between 5,000 yuan and 15,000 yuan ($725 – $2,176). DJI Automotive’s solution enables low-end models to access high-level intelligent functions while providing cutting-edge technology for mid-to-high-end models.

SAIC-GM-Wuling had already equipped the 2023 KiWi EV model with active safety, driving assistance, and parking assistance functions provided by DJI Automotive. Additionally, DJI Automotive disclosed that its team is currently preparing for advanced intelligent driving capabilities.
