On the evening of August 25, Shenzhen-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) firm DJI officially released the DJI Avata lightweight drone, starting from 3,499 yuan ($510).
DJI Avata is a small UAV with its own blade protective cover, weighing about 410 grams and measuring 180 × 180 × 80 mm. The brand says that the device is sturdy and durable, and that it can still fly normally after a slight collision. It supports downward-looking obstacle sensing, so that it can fly flexibly in various scenarios.
In terms of filming, DJI Avata is equipped with a 1/1.7-inch 48MP f/2.8 sensor, which supports shooting 155 super wide-angle 4K/60fps videos, with RockSteady and HorizonSteady. It supports a maximum transmission distance of 10 km, a maximum hovering time of 18 minutes and 20GB of storage.
For new users, DJI Avata has goggles and a remote controller to let them control the drone by somatosensory, whereby the flight direction can be controlled only by turning the wrist. The forward flight speed can be controlled by pressing the throttle trigger, and hovering can be achieved by just easing the user’s hand. It is easy to control and get started quickly. It is compatible with DJI Goggles 2 and DJI FPV Goggles V2, and also supports the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 and DJI Motion Controller.
DJI has also introduced DJI Goggles 2, which support head tracking functions and weigh only 290 grams. They are 30% lighter than the DJI FPV Goggles V2. The mask material is soft and fits the face well, greatly improving the light leakage problem.
The DJI Goggles 2 adopt Micro-OLED display technology, are equipped with two 1080p screens, and have an independent video processing chip. They are also equipped with a Wi-Fi wireless screen projection function, and support mainstream audio-visual software using the DLNA protocol.
In addition, DJI Goggles 2 support diopter adjustment from 200 degrees of hyperopia to 800 degrees of myopia. For users with astigmatism or who are outside the original diopter correction range, they can match their own lenses suitable for personal vision and put them into the attached vision correction glasses frame.
