DJI Osmo Mobile 6 Pushes Smartphone Photography Performance
DJI, a leading civilian drones and camera technology firm based in China, on September 22 launched the Osmo Mobile 6, a palm-sized, portable device that unlocks the full potential of everyday smartphone photos and videos.
This latest addition to the popular Osmo Mobile series features a smartphone stabilizer that has been enhanced through functions on the device, software features and editing software to give users complete control over the phone cameras they carry with them. Alongside improved ergonomics and compatibility with larger phones, the Osmo Mobile 6 features DJI’s three-axis stabilization, a brand new Quick Launch and ActiveTrack 5.0.
Three powerful motors and DJI’s advanced algorithms keep smartphones steady when shooting photos and videos. Smartphones’ electronic image stabilization can falter or lose video quality during more dynamic movement and low-lit settings, but the motorized stabilization of the Osmo Mobile 6 makes the difference in every moment.
A new Quick Launch feature has been provided for iPhone users. Once unfolded, attaching an iPhone to the stabilizer automatically triggers the Mimo app alert to enter the camera view instantly. Preparation time is dramatically reduced, with the device up and running three times quicker than previous models.
Featuring an enhanced version of DJI’s ActiveTrack, Osmo Mobile 6’s ActiveTrack 5.0 offers more stable tracking at longer distances and also allows the front camera to track subjects that turn to the side or spin.
DJI’s own Mimo app, and the officially recommended app LightCut, are both available to guide users along their content creation journey. Osmo Mobile 6 has a 1,000 mAh battery with a life of about 6 hours and 24 minutes and a charging time of about 1 hour and 24 minutes.
DJI Osmo Mobile 6 is available for the retail price of $159 and includes a magnetic clamp, tripod, power cable, and storage pouch. It is available to purchase now on DJI’s official platform and will be available through other channels at a later date.
Founded in 2006, DJI has been on a tear since the drone market exploded in 2013. According to commercial data platform Tianyancha, DJI has obtained eight separate rounds of financing since its establishment. However, nearly four and a half years after it raised $1 billion in strategic funding in April 2018, DJI has not disclosed any further progress. On August 21, 2020, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) made its final ruling on an investigation into DJI. An injunction was issued, but enforcement was suspended.

As early as 2016, DJI predicted encountering a ceiling in the field of drones. Frank Wang, the founder of DJI, also said in 2016 that the drone market will be close to saturation, and that DJI’s revenue will reach 20 billion yuan ($2.82 billion) to hit the top. In recent years, DJI has explored more fields in response to slowing growth in the consumer drone market. In addition to industrial UAVs, DJI has also launched smart hardware products such as motion cameras, shooting accessories and products for intelligent driving.
