DJI Releases Mavic 3 Drone, Starting from $2169
DJI officially released the latest version in its Mavic series of aerial drones on Friday with prices ranging from 13,888 yuan ($2,169) to 32,888 yuan ($5,199).
Imaging has always been the pursuit of Mavic series. The new, basic version of the DJI Mavic 3 is equipped with a dual-camera system that features a custom Hasselblad L2D-20c aerial camera. It has two lenses: a 4/3 CMOS sensor with a 24mm prime lens & a 28x hybrid zoom telephoto lens.
The higher end, and higher-priced, version of the lineup, the DJI Mavic 3 Cine, is capable of filming in Apple ProRes 422 HQ at 5.1K up to 50FPS. This high-end version is targeted towards professional film and television creators who need the extra features. The drone now transmits in full 1080p HD at 60 fps when close enough, but has a maximum transmission range of 15km.
The Mavic 3 also has greatly improved sensing capabilities thanks to sensors watching every corner of the drone. In total, there are six fish-eye vision sensors and two wide-angle sensors, which enable the drone to detect obstacles in all directions and plan safe paths while in flight.
In order to achieve these remarkable features, DJI carried out optimization for all of the drone’s components. “Wind tunnel testing shows Mavic 3 produces 35% less drag than previous generations,” DJI wrote. While compressing the weight of structure and hardware, motors, blades and large-capacity batteries with a higher energy efficiency ratio enabled the drone to extend its battery life. DJI has confirmed that the Mavic 3 can stay in flight for up to 46 minutes in ideal conditions. Its 5000 mAh battery needs only 90 minutes to be fully charged.
The standard version will cost 13,888 yuan. The Fly More Combo adds two additional batteries, a charging hub, four sets of propellers, a carrying case that also transforms into a backpack, and a set of ND filters. The Fly More Combo will cost 17,688 yuan.
