Double Eleven Turnover: Tmall Bags 540 Billion Yuan, Takes 349 Billion Yuan

According to data released Friday by Chinese tech giant Alibaba, the total transaction volume on its e-commerce plaform Tmall during the ‘Double 11’ shopping festival was 540.3 billion yuan ($84.448 billion), hitting a new high. From 8:00 p.m. on October 31 to 23:59 on November 11, the accumulated order value for transactions on, another Chinese e-commerce platform, during the Double Eleven festival had exceeded 349.1 billion yuan ($54.564 billion).

According to data released by, the sales of 31 brands exceeded 1 billion yuan, with Apple’s sales exceeding 10 billion yuan. More than 5 million farmers have reportedly increased their income as a result. The turnover of 43,276 merchants has increased by over 200% year-on-year. In addition, the number of new small- and medium-sized brands has increased by more than four times year-on-year. JD Logistics‘s green supply chain has reduced carbon by 26,000 tons and used recycling packaging 11.35 million times.

In the past year, JD Health has served more than 23,000 patients with rare diseases. In terms of technology, JD Cloud, as a solid technological cornerstone of 11.11, saw peak user visits per second increase by 124% year-on-year in the final 10 minutes leading up to 11.11’s climax.

This year, Dada Group, a local on-demand delivery and retail platform, and jointly launched “Shop Now,” allowing consumers to enjoy “order online, delivery from store, within one hour” service when purchasing products on the JD App during the festival. They also have co-created a “Nearby” tab, located at the top right of the JD app, connecting 530 million users to over 100,000 physical retail stores on JDDJ, Dada’s on-demand retail platform, delivering a faster, cheaper and overall better online shopping experience.

During the Singles Day Festival, sales of home appliances on Shop Now and JDDJ increased by more than 10 times compared to last year – meanwhile, smartphones increased by 4.7 times, books and videos, beauty and personal care products, maternal and child products, and pet products all doubled sales.

Alibaba‘s data show that in the first hour from the beginning of Tmall’s Double Eleven promotional period, the turnover of more than 2,600 brands has exceeded that of the first day in 2020. As of 23:00 on November 11, the turnover of 698 small- and medium-sized brands had leapfrogged from millions to tens of millions of yuan. There were 78 brands with a turnover of tens of millions of yuan in the Double Eleven festival last year, and their turnover in 2021’s shopping festival has exceeded 100 million yuan this year.

The turnover from Tmall’s Double 11 in 2020 was 498.2 billion yuan, compared to 268.4 billion yuan in the same period in 2019.

This year, Tmall’s Double 11 has continuously provided new functions for consumers, not only by lowering the threshold of add-on items, but also by launching a sharing shopping cart with one click and setting up an exclusive venue for the elderly.

The increase in sales brings about an increase of express delivery. According to the monitoring data of the State Post Bureau of The People’s Republic of China, from November 1 to 11, postal and express delivery enterprises nationwide have handled 4.776 billion express packages, an increase of more than 20% year-on-year. Among them, a total of 696 million express packages are handled on November 11, reaching a record high.
