Former DeepSeek core developer Luo Fuli joins Xiaomi to lead the MiMo team, advancing spatial intelligence to connect linguistic and physical AI toward AGI.

On November 12, 2025, Luo Fuli officially announced on X that she has joined Xiaomi as head of the MiMo team, her first public confirmation since leaving DeepSeek. She declared the team will drive intelligence from the linguistic to the physical world, unlocking multimodal spatial intelligence with perception, reasoning, generation, and action—pushing toward AGI deployment.

The move ends a year of speculation. As early as late 2024, reports claimed Lei Jun recruited her with a “tens-of-millions RMB salary” as Xiaomi built a 10,000-GPU cluster. Lei also revealed AI ambitions in his year-end livestream. In October 2025, Luo appeared in Xiaomi’s latest AI paper as an “independent researcher,” widely seen as a non-compete transition.

Luo is a heavyweight in AI: B.S. in Computer Science from Beijing Normal University, M.S. in Computational Linguistics from Peking University, former Alibaba DAMO Academy lead on VECO and AliceMind, joined DeepSeek in 2022 to co-develop DeepSeek-V2, with over 11,000 career citations (~8,000 in 2025) and co-authorship on DeepSeek’s Nature cover paper.

Her arrival crystallizes MiMo’s focus on spatial intelligence—bridging information and physical AI, aligning perfectly with Xiaomi’s “People-Car-Home” ecosystem. AI pioneer Li Feifei has similarly stressed spatial intelligence as the core of embodied AI and AGI.
