The third annual Facebook Overseas Marketing Summit was held in Shanghai on Sept. 12. At the event with the theme “created by you, loved by the world”, Facebook jointly released with KPMG a list of top 50 Chinese brands ranked by global influence.
Brands in the top 50 include tech giants Alibaba and Tencent, Alibaba’s video platform Youku, and Alibaba’s payment affiliate Ant Financial. Other names such as e-commerce platforms JD.com, Banggood, SHEIN and Jollychic all made their mark abroad as well.
Chinese smartphone makers arguably made up the most popular category with OnePlus, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and ZTE all topping the chart. Other consumer electronic brands such as TCL, Midea, Haier and Gree all made their appearances as well. Apps such as Meitu, Kwai, and Fotoable, game developers such as FunPlus, tap4fun, Zenjoy, and YOOZOO were all among the top 50 winners.
This marks the second year that Facebook, partnering with KPMG, has published the list along with a white paper on the Chinese brands. The list evaluates the brand popularity of hundreds of Chinese enterprises in eight key markets around the world. Over 2400 consumers were surveyed based on different language backgrounds, age groups, income brackets and combined with results from Facebook’s data.
The white paper on Chinese companies overseas accomplishments also summarized a few trends. For example, the awareness of Chinese brands are on the rise with 77 percent of those surveyed knowing at least one Chinese brand. 59 percent of those surveyed expressed their affinity towards Chinese products because they are “convenient and easy to use”. All the trends are pointing to the improvement of the global impression of the “Made in China” label.
Dan Neary, Vice President of Asia Pacific at Facebook, said at the event that in China, there are a lot of medium and small services, products, and brands that are venturing abroad, which is a great match with Facebook’s mission to connect the world.
Despite being inaccessible in China, Facebook remains as one of the most popular social media platforms in the world and the perfect portal for Chinese enterprises, large or small, to broadcast themselves to the rest of the world.
