Freshippo Employee Reconciles with Company

Recently, a probationary Freshippo employee was dismissed from the company for leaking his salary which the company viewed as disclosure of commercial secrets while the employee disagreed with the allegation. The Paper reported on Monday that after mediation, the two parties have now reached a settlement on the issue.

On November 26, 2021, the employee applied to a job in the Jinan branch of Freshippo, the grocery retail chain of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. After passing interview, he was responsible for the sales, cash register and other work of the aquatic products department of the store in a mall. The probation period was 3 months, from November 26, 2021 to February 25, 2022.

However, on February 10th, the payday of the company, when the employee received his salary notification to check his personal payroll, his action was overseen by his colleagues. On February 12th, he was dismissed from the company on the grounds of having leaked commercial secrets.

The employee said that the regulations of Freshippo did not specifically point out that the personal salary of employees belongs to the internal data of the company, and, during induction training, no one told employees that their personal salary could never be revealed. His payroll was seen by colleagues and was now deliberately disclosed. On February 14th, he went to Licheng District Labor Bureau of Jinan City to report the unfair dismissal.

“I’ve got a relatively satisfactory result. But I cannot disclose the specific information.” The employee said, adding that he has not yet decided whether he will find a new job at the moment. After the incident with Internet company, he intends to be a civil servant, a much more stable job for most Chinese citizens.
