Geely-backed Polestar to Launch Polestar 3 on October 12

Geely-backed premium electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar will premiere its first SUV, Polestar 3, at a launch event on October 12, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Polestar 3 will be the first model to be built in both China and the United States.

Built on a new, all-electric base, the Polestar 3 features the latest in high-tech components. This includes a centralized core processor from NVIDIA, and a long list of advanced safety systems from Volvo Cars and leading industry suppliers such as Zenseact, Luminar and Smart Eye. The dual-motor version has a maximum power of 380kW and a peak torque of 910 N · m, which will achieve a performance close to the Model X P100D in the SUV class. The single-motor version will come with a P10 super motor.

As standard, the Polestar 3 will ship with adaptive dual-chamber air suspension and active dampers that allow the vehicle to switch between comfort and firm suspension dynamics while adjusting to the road conditions once every two milliseconds (500 Hz).

The Polestar 3 is equipped with the company’s proprietary engineered chassis tuning for the active dampers and air suspension. Along with its logo, the company has also detailed the vehicle in Swedish gold, including valve caps, seat belts and a laser-etched interior light strip.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath previously said the model would be priced between €75,000 and €110,000. The SUV, which Polestar sees as a competitor to Porsche’s Cayenne, is not expected to be delivered until at least the first quarter of 2023.

Polestar was founded in 2017 by Volvo Cars and Geely, though the Polestar 3 will be built alongside Volvo’s new flagship SUV at the company’s new U.S. plant near Charleston, South Carolina. Both will use the new SPA2 pure power platform that supports dual motors and a larger battery, which gives the Polestar 3 a cruising range of 600 km in WLTP.

On September 18, the China tour of the Polestar 6 concept car was launched, and the first stop was at the company’s store in Shanghai. With the confirmation of the mass production of the Polestar 6, the first batch of Polestar 6 LA Concept Editions, which is limited to 500 units worldwide, has officially opened 10 reservations for the Chinese market. Its suggested retail price is 1.68 million yuan ($232,336).

In addition to these models, the Polestar 4 will be released in 2023, which is considered as a competitor of the Porsche Macan, and Polestar 5 is planned to be launched in 2024. The company is also expanding its global presence, with sales channels in 25 countries and nearly 160 retail outlets worldwide by the end of this year.
