Geely Plans New Energy Vehicle Project in Haikou
The High Technology Industry Development Zone in Haikou, China’s Hainan Province, signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday with Geely Commercial Vehicle Group, planning to build a new energy vehicle project in the zone.
This agreement is an important measure for Geely Commercial Vehicle Group to support Hainan Province achieve its goal of using new energy vehicles in the whole island by 2030. Hainan Province was the first in China to put forward a timetable for “banning the sale of fuel vehicles” before 2030, and it is also the first island economy in the world to put forward a development strategy for clean energy-powered vehicles.
The project will involve vehicle charging, battery swapping and operating services. It will also exert an influence on the nearby provinces of Guangdong and Guangxi, as well as overseas markets such as in Southeast Asia.
According to the agreement, the collaboration spans new energy vehicles, modification and manufacturing of high-end imported vehicles, green industries, motorcycle tourism culture, aviation, commercial aerospace, integration of production and education, and other fields.

Geely Holding Group established Geely Commercial Vehicle Group in 2014. In 2016, it officially launched a new energy commercial vehicle brand called Farizon Auto. This subsidiary covers five major product lines: heavy-duty trucks, light trucks, small trucks, LCVs and buses.
