Hesai Technology and SAIC Volkswagen Reach Cooperation Intention

On September 30th, Hesai Technology officially announced on its public account that at the signing ceremony of the key project for building a new ecosystem in the automotive industry between Anting and SAIC Volkswagen on September 29th, SAIC Volkswagen reached a cooperation intention with Hesai Technology.

In July this year, a Volkswagen ID. test vehicle equipped with LiDAR appeared and started road testing. The vehicle is based on the Volkswagen ID.4 model (it is not clear whether it comes from SAIC Volkswagen or FAW-Volkswagen), equipped with Horizon Robotics’ SuperDrive intelligent driving system. According to Horizon Robotics CEO Yu Kai, SuperDrive performs ‘like an experienced driver, more like a Beijing driver,’ personifying and smooth, running safely for 50 minutes without any interventions throughout the journey.

In summary, it is expected that under SAIC Volkswagen, a smart driving version model based on the ID.4 X will be launched, with Hesai Technology’s LiDAR used for hardware and Horizon Robotics’ smart driving system for software. Hesai Technology and Horizon Robotics have reached a strategic cooperation in 2021.

SAIC sold 100,000 vehicles in August, an increase of 13% month-on-month; the cumulative sales from January to August were nearly 700,000 vehicles. Among them, the delivery of new energy vehicles was 14,130 units, an increase of 23.3% year-on-year. As for SAIC Audi, the cumulative sales in the first eight months were nearly 25,000 units, up by 92.8% year-on-year. Among them,A7L had accumulated sales of 18 thousand units,a growth rate of148.6%.
