High-end Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Increase by $1,581 in China

On Thursday, the official website of Tesla China indicated a price increase of 10,000 yuan ($1,581) for both the Model 3 Performance and Model Y Long Range, Performance versions. Further, the website indicated that it now takes 16 to 20 weeks to deliver a car.

The Model 3 Performance version is priced at 349,900 yuan while of the Model Y Long Range and Performance versions are 357,900 yuan and 397,900 yuan respectively. The price increase in China follows a trend found around the world. As per Tesla’s official website in the US, the price of Model Y Long Range version was raised by $1,000 to $59,990 and that of Model Y Performance version has been raised by $1,000 to $64,990.

The last price increase made by Tesla took place only recently, on December 31, 2021. Its official website in China showed that the Model 3 up 10,000 yuan to 265,600 yuan and the Model Y up 21,000 yuan to 301,800 yuan. Both models were expected to be delivered within 12-16 weeks at that time.

Since 2021, the priced of the Model 3 in China has gone up six times. On January 1, 2021, the new Model 3 went on sale starting at 249,900 yuan.

According to Tesla, its Gigafactory Shanghai delivered 484,100 vehicles throughout the last year, registering a year-on-year growth of 235%. A formal opening ceremony will be held on March 22 for Tesla’s Berlin gigafactory, its second overseas gigafactory after the Shanghai location. As previously planned, the Berlin gigafactory will be capable of producing a Model Y every 45 seconds, with an annual capacity of 500,000 units.
