Huawei's mobile brand Honor released the new flagship Honor Play smartphone and the Chinese version of Honor 9i on Wednesday afternoon in Beijing.
Honor's achievements including 153 million units sold in 2017 and a 51-fold increase in sales in seven years.[/caption]
As for market shares, Huawei is the No.1 smartphone brand in the Chinese domestic market and ranks third in both total sales and market share globally. It even reached the top spot in countries like Spain, Italy and Poland.

Huawei has invested a tremendous amount in R&D, especially in the areas of AI and 5G networks. Currently, Huawei has fourteen research center globally with a total reported R&D investment of over €10 billion.

At the event, Zhao Ming, president of the Huawei Honor Brand, revealed a revolutionary graphic image processing accelerator technology named “GPU Turbo” while introducing the new Huawei Honor Play.

According to Zhao, this new technology would bring 60% improvement in the phone's graphic processing efficiency with a 30% reduction in power consumption.
The Honor 9i was released in India last October but the Chinese version is very different. This new Honor 9i released in China has a notch on top, a 5.84 inch 1080p display, and an aspect of ratio of 19:9.
It is made out of 2.5D glass with a metal frame and has the usual face and fingerprint unlock. It runs on EMUI 8.0, has 4GB of RAM and up to 125GB of storage.
Also released at the event were a blue version of the previously released Honor V10, an AMD Ryzen 5 version of the Honor Magic Book, and a pair of earphones that supposedly helps you to manage your heart rate & emotions.
Announcement that all Honor smartphone products will be upgraded to have GPU Turbo starting June & July, for free was also made at the event.
