BEIJING, Oct. 15 – Honor today unveiled its Magic8 series, championing it as the world's first "self-evolving AI phone." CEO George Li introduced the device, priced from $620, as a "living" entity where AI transcends being a mere tool to become an "autonomously evolving life form."
A core demonstration showcased the on-device AI learning a new card game from scratch, boosting its win rate from 0% to over 40% through thousands of self-play matches in minutes. The AI assistant, YOYO, acts as a versatile companion, using visual recognition to find coupons, identify non-pre-made meals, generate reports, and optimize networks for ticket purchasing.
Technically, this is powered by Honor's Magic LM 3.0. The on-device Visual Language Action model, MagicGUI, is claimed to outperform OpenAI's GPT-4o in specific tasks. A new system architecture allows YOYO to automate over 3,000 scenarios.
In a direct competitive challenge, Honor compared its camera and performance benchmarks favorably against the latest Apple iPhone and Xiaomi models. The event also featured a surprise conceptual "Robot Phone" with an expressive, retractable camera, slated for a 2026 release.
