Honor Tops China’s Smartphone Market Share for First Time
Tech market research firm IDC released a quarterly cell phone tracking report on July 29. In Q2 2022, China’s smartphone market shipped about 67.2 million units, down 14.7 percent year-on-year. The domestic smartphone market shipped about 140 million units in the first half of the year, down 14.4 percent year-on-year. Domestic shipments of folding screen products exceeded 1.1 million units in the first half of the year, an increase of about 70% year-on-year.
Honor ranked first in terms of shipments during Q2 in the Chinese market. Driven by the launch of the new Honor 70, Honor maintained its high growth momentum. The entry-level phone products such as Changwan 30 and Play 6 series and the high-end phone products such as the Magic 4 series in other product lines helped Honor consistently expand its market share.

Vivo ranked second with a 19.1% market share, also up from Q1. Thanks to positive performance of iQOO flagship products in the online market in June and the high recognition of new vivo X in both online and offline markets, vivo reached its highest top-end market share in Q2 in almost a year.
OPPO shipped more than two million units of its popular products such as the Reno 8 and A57 in Q2. In particular, the Reno 8 helped OPPO maintain its leading position in the mid-range market ($200-400, excluding tax) in China in Q2.
Finally, Xiaomi shipped approximately 10.5 million units in Q2. Since May, the Redmi K and Redmi Note have become the main drivers for Xiaomi as the market picks up and the promotional season approaches. In addition, the sales promotion strategy during the 6.18 Shopping Festival also boosted sales of Xiaomi‘s 12 in the high-end price range. Xiaomi gained market share compared to Q1.
