HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang Added to Lenovo’s Board Of Directors as Independent Director

Lenovo Group, a leading Chinese technology firm, announced on Monday night that Cher Wang and Xue Lan have been appointed as independent non-executive directors of the company with effect from June 20, 2022. The new appointees are leaders in industry and academic communities, respectively.

According to the announcement, Cher Wang is the co-founder and current chairwoman of HTC, a well-known and large consumer electronics company. She has achieved many milestones in information and technology-related businesses and has more than 40 years of experience in the industry. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Political Economy of Industrial Societies at the University of California, Berkeley in 1982.

HTC confirmed the news. According to HTC, Cher Wang has served as a director of several listed companies and has been heavily involved in high-tech industries for a long time. She has been involved in VR, AR, 5G, artificial intelligence and blockchain, and continuously promoted industrial innovation and development through the enterprises she founded and took charge of.

Xue Lan, another independent non-executive director named by Lenovo, is now a professor at Tsinghua University, the Dean of Schwarzman College and the Dean of Institute for AI International Governance (I-AIIG) of the university. He also serves as a director of the China Institute for Science and Technology Policy, and is a co-director of the Global Institute for Sustainable Development Goals at Tsinghua University. Xue Lan is currently an independent non-executive director of SenseTime Group and Neusoft Corporation.

The board of directors of Lenovo Group currently has 11 members, including 8 independent directors. Two of the directors are female, including Yang Lan, a well-known Chinese media proprietor, and Cher Wang, the newest member. With their addition, the proportion of female representatives has increased to 18%. Yang Lan has been appointed as an independent non-executive director since May 15, 2020, and is a member of the Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee of Lenovo Group.
