Huaneng Power International Builds Floating Photovoltaic Power Station with World’s Largest Single Capacity
Chinese firm Huaneng Power International, Inc. (HPI) is investing in the construction of a Water Solar Photovoltaic Power Station in Dezhou City, Shandong Province. The second-phase plant, which is as large as 120MW, has connected to the grid for power generation on Thursday. That is to say, this 320MW floating solar PV in Dingzhuang, Dezhou is now fully connected to the grid for power generation and is also the world’s largest floating PV power station.
After it is put into production, the project will reportedly be capable of generating 550 million kWh of clean electric energy annually – equivalent to saving 168,000 tons of standard coal and reducing 453,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
The project is built on a reservoir owned by the Dezhou Power Plant, which is as large as 8899 mu (1466 acres) and was constructed in two phases. The first phase of 200 MW floating PV supports 8 MWh high-efficiency energy storage devices, and was officially started on November 5, 2020, and the full capacity was connected to the grid for power generation on November 20.
The second phase of the project started on September 20 this year. It reached full capacity and was connected to the grid for power generation on December 30 this year. After the project is put into production, it is estimated to provide 550 million kWh of clean electric energy annually, equivalent to saving 168,000 tons of standard coal and reducing 453,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
