Huawei Adds Carbon Emission Reduction Requirements for Suppliers
The 2022 Huawei Supplier Carbon Emission Reduction Conference was held on Tuesday. During the event, Huawei Chief Supply Officer Ying Weimin said, “Huawei has integrated green requirements into its procurement quality priority strategy and the entire procurement business process, and has clarified green requirements in all aspects of the entire process, including supplier certification, selection, site audits and performance management.”
At the conference, Huawei focused on the carbon emission reduction initiatives and requirements for suppliers, and discussed the path and methodology for carbon emission reductions, industry standards and Huawei’s supply chain carbon emission reduction requirements.
Huawei revealed that more than 2,000 representatives from more than 600 suppliers around the world attended the conference online. In response to carbon emission reduction, leading technology companies tend to set up earlier and be more effective. However, due to long supply chains and a multitude of suppliers in the technology industry, the issue of carbon emission reduction of upstream and downstream suppliers has also increasingly become an important focus point for technology companies to promote the green and low-carbon development of the whole chain.
As early as 2013, Huawei launched a pilot project for carbon emission reduction for suppliers, with more than 100 of them participating in the pilot project. In 2020, Huawei promoted TOP suppliers, who account for more than 80% of the purchase amount, to set carbon reduction targets and implement carbon reduction actions. 2021, Huawei incorporated carbon reduction requirements into the whole process of supplier management, putting forward carbon reduction requirements for all suppliers, and encouraged leading suppliers to achieve carbon neutrality ahead of schedule.
