Huawei and SERES To Launch Second Cooperative Smart Car
A number of Chinese media outlets reported on Monday that Huawei will launch another new car in cooperation with SERES. The new vehicle will be named “SERES Auto”.
The SERES SF5 was released in the first half of 2021 and only adopted Huawei’s electric drive system, its HUAWEI HiCar operating system, and other primary functions. This new version, however, will see SERES Auto’s early planning, design, marketing, and sales be completely led by Huawei and will adopt a complete set of Huawei smart car solutions.
According to at least one information source, this new model suggests that Huawei has bought out this model, while Seres will only be responsible for OEM production. In Huawei’s vehicle development plan, Huawei’s role is as a parts supplier, while the right to define brands and products is still in the hands of the car companies themselves. Yet, as for SERES Auto, Huawei is the leader from beginning to end.
The source added that Huawei aims to set a good example of the success of one car model, in order to attract more car companies to enter Huawei’s automobile ecology. The person in charge of Huawei’s smart car division, however, said that Huawei would not set foot in the car industry individually and would not develop any new car models.
According to Tencent‘s previous report, Huawei plans to have cars on sale in 200 experience stores before the end of July 2021 and grow this number to over 1,000 by the end of 2021. Yu Chengdong, Executive Director of Huawei, has set an internal target of selling 300,000 units next year. The first car sold by Huawei, the SERES SF5, has already seen sales of more than 6,500 units a month.
In addition to SERES Auto, according to Arcfox official, the ArcFox Alpha S Huawei HI version will be delivered in the last quarter of 2021 and is also expected to enter Huawei’s sales channels at that time.
