Huawei Develops World’s First Triple-Fold Screen Smartphone, Incorporating AI Technology
Chinese media outlet Securities Daily has reported that the world’s first triple-fold screen smartphone prototype has been developed, incorporating several of Huawei’s new technologies. Mass production of the device is expected in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
When asked for confirmation, Huawei did not deny the reports but stated that they were not yet ready to share specific details about the project’s progress. However, an insider close to the company revealed that Huawei has indeed initiated the development of a triple-fold screen smartphone, which incorporates the latest AI technology, and the project is progressing smoothly.
Earlier this year in March, Huawei filed a patent for a “foldable screen device” featuring a triple-fold design. The patent lists Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. as the applicant, with inventors Huang Bo, Zha Peng, Wang Yanxin, Pang Dong, and Yu Weidong.
The patent abstract describes a foldable screen device consisting of three shells, a first and second hinge, and a flexible screen. The hinges connect the shells and allow them to fold or unfold relative to each other. Notably, the third shell is thicker than the first and/or the second shell, and the thicknesses of the first and second shells differ.
The design allows for varying thicknesses across the different shells, reducing the overall thickness of the device when it’s folded and making it lighter. This design consideration is expected to enhance user comfort and grip.
