Huawei P50 Series to Launch July 29, HarmonyOS Rumoured to be Pre-Installed
On Monday, Huawei announced to release its P50 series of cell phones on July 29, further expanding its unique mobile imaging technologies. The handset is rumoured to be equipped with the Snapdragon 888 series 4G chips and Kirin 9000 5G chips, as was recently reported by egsea.com.
Huawei will hold a launch conference at 19:30 on July 29, during which several new products will be introduced, the flagship P50 among them. This latest version of Huawei’s P-series cell phones is rumoured to come pre-installed with Huawei’s own Harmony OS platform.
The P-Series is one of Huawei’s high-end flagship line of phones, often released in March. However, due to an industry-wide chip shortage, the Huawei P50 Series has yet to be released this year.
On June 2nd, at the press conference of HarmonyOS, Huawei showed an image of what the phone might look like, including a thin and light design with dual cameras. Its design is similar to the Honor 50, so the P50 may look similar to the Honor 50 except for their selection of colors and the materials that make up the body of the device.
According to IDC, Huawei has recently dropped out of the top five in global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2021. This marks the first time the company hasn’t ranked among the global leaders. Apple grew at 50.4%, taking the premiere spot in the high-end market. Xiaomi, OPPO and VIVO all quickly captured the low-end market at a rate of over 40%, while Samsung, the top in the world, also grew at 28.8%.

In the first quarter of this year, Huawei’s mobile phone sales have dropped out of the top five in the global market. But in April 2020, regarding handset sales, Huawei surpassed Samsung for the first time and reached the top spot in the world.
Dealt a blow by the difficulties in its handset business, Huawei has started selling cars this year, featuring its SERES electric vehicles in partnership with Xiaokang Co., Ltd. As for selling cars, Yu Chengdong (Richard Yu) once said that Huawei’s mobile phone business encountered great difficulties after being restricted by the United States and hoped to make up for those losses by selling cars, which is Huawei’s long-term strategy within the next 5-10 years.
