Huawei’s Ren Zhengfei: We Are About to Enter the 4th Industrial Revolution
On September 19th, the conversation summary between Huawei’s founder, CEO Ren Zhengfei and the ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) Foundation, coaches, and student gold medalists was exposed.
Ren Zhengfei mentioned that we are about to enter the fourth industrial revolution, with big data as its foundation. The fourth industrial revolution is magnificent in scale beyond imagination. Today’s young people will be the leaders of the future era of big data computing power. Within twenty or thirty years, during the artificial intelligence revolution, we will definitely witness the brilliance of young people shining brightly.
Ren Zhengfei said that the unknown is called science. In today’s world, the boundaries between science and technology are becoming increasingly close. The time it takes for science to be transformed into technology is getting shorter and shorter. If we wait for universities to fully understand the theory before engaging in technological development, we will lose our first-mover advantage and competitiveness. Therefore, Huawei invests approximately $3-5 billion each year in basic theoretical research, collaborating with universities to jointly explore seemingly useless scientific knowledge.

Ren Zhengfei emphasized that in addition to the ICPC competition, Huawei is also willing to sponsor competitions in other disciplines to promote the cultivation of talent in basic sciences. Huawei welcomes the ICPC competition to be held at its campus and will open up its research and development area for young people to experience Huawei’s working environment.
