SHENZHEN, November 28 – Huawei's first AI-powered emotional companion toy, "Clever Buddy" , sold out within minutes of its launch on November 28, despite multiple restocks on Huawei's official store. Priced at 399 RMB ($55), the plush robot has become an unexpected hit, reflecting growing consumer interest in emotionally intelligent AI products.
Developed in collaboration with Luobo Intelligence, with character design by Fuzozo Studio, Clever Buddy integrates Huawei's Xiaoyi large language model to enable natural voice conversations. The toy features touch interaction (responding to pats and shakes), a dedicated diary memory system that records daily interactions and secrets, and personalized companionship through emotional dialogue.
Unlike many smart toys, Clever Buddy focuses exclusively on conversational companionship and does not include music generation or singing capabilities. It requires HarmonyOS 5.0 or above and connects via a dedicated app to sync with Huawei's ecosystem, allowing seamless integration with the brand's broader device portfolio.
The immediate sell-out and sustained demand highlight Huawei's successful expansion into AI-driven lifestyle products beyond its core smartphone and automotive businesses, positioning the company at the intersection of emotional AI and consumer hardware.
