Huawei Sabrina Meng: It Is Expected that There Will Be 5 Billion 5G Connections Worldwide by 2030

At the opening day of MWC Shanghai 2023 today, Sabrina Meng, Huawei’s Rotating Chairwoman and CFO, gave a keynote titled “Embracing 5G transformation”.

“5G has been in commercial use around the world for four years now. It’s driving new value creation, and 5.5G is the next step forward,” said Meng. “Science and technology are moving towards large, complex systems. This requires matching technology to specific scenarios and performing systems engineering, in order to pave the way for 5G’s ongoing success.”

The Shanghai Mobile World Congress is the largest and most influential mobile communication exhibition in Asia. This conference, with the theme of ‘Unlimited Mobility,’ focuses on innovations in mobile technologies such as connected cars, wearable technology, mobile payments, and smart cities.

Previously, Wang Zhiqin, the Vice President of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), stated that as of May this year, the total number of 5G base stations in China has reached 2.844 million, accounting for 25.3% of the total number of mobile base stations. The coverage rate in administrative regions at or above county level has reached 100%.
