Intel’s Mobileye and Geely Expand Cooperation on Autonomous Driving
Mobileye, an autonomous driving firm acquired by Intel, announced on September 26 that it will deepen cooperation with Geely Holding Group. The two sides will promote an advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) and automated driving technology, also expanding their collaboration to include three additional Geely brands.
Previously, Geely’s luxury car marque Zeekr launched the Zeekr 001 electric car, which is equipped with the Mobileye SuperVision system. Owners of this model are expected to gain access to all of the system’s features through an OTA update by the end of this year.
On the basis of the successful cooperation between Mobileye and Zeekr, three more brands under Geely Group plan to launch EV models equipped with Mobileye SuperVision in 2023.
Zeekr will also launch Mobileye SuperVision on two new models and will jointly develop new lidar-based functions with Mobileye.
Mobileye SuperVision is powered by two 7-nanometer EyeQ5 system-on-chip (SoC). It uses 11 high-resolution cameras – seven long-range and four parking cameras – to provide full visual coverage surrounding the vehicle. This system enables vehicles to change lanes autonomously, navigate intersections and manage key driving priorities, as well as powering automated parking and preventive steering and braking.

It is worth mentioning that in January this year, Mobileye announced plans to develop a new consumer-grade all-electric vehicle with L4 autonomous driving capabilities in cooperation with Zeekr.
This autonomous car will be equipped with six EyeQ 5 SoC, and will be based on the redundant braking, steering and power functions of Geely’s SEA vast architecture. The efficient integration of Mobileye and Extreme Krypton software technology will be realized under the concept of Open EyeQ.
The new pure electric car is expected to be first launched in China as early as 2024 and will eventually be launched for the global market. It is expected to become the world’s first consumer-grade autonomous car with L4 self-driving capabilities.
In addition, Mobileye said at the time that it would strengthen its R&D capacity in China, establish a local data center and expand its China team to support its fast-growing business in the country.
