January Smartphone Sales in China See Monthly Jump of 38.6%
Industrial research institution CINNO Research released a report on Monday, pointing out that the sales volume of smartphones in China in January was about 30.87 million units, up 0.4% year-on-year and 38.6% month-on-month.
Domestic smartphone brands OPPO and Vivo still rank first and second in China’s smartphone market, with respective increases of 42.6% and 55.8% month-on-month and decreases of 21.1% and 13.2% year-on-year. After the OPPO Reno series and the Vivo S series completed their channel distribution, together with the volume seen during promotional activities before the country’s Spring Festival, the sales volume of OPPO and Vivo increased significantly in January. According to CINNO Research, the OPPO Reno 7 and OPPO A56 have become the brand’s main sales models. Meanwhile, Vivo’s S12 model is now its primary sales force.
In January, former Huawei sub-brand Honor continued to perform strongly, ranking third in the domestic market with a sales volume slightly lower than Vivo, with a year-on-year increase of 242.9% and a monthly increase of 54.4%. The sales volume of the top five brands increased the most year-on-year.
Since the second half of 2021, Honor has recovered rapidly after completing its brand positioning and product strategy, and has launched many smartphone models covering different price range markets in China. According to CINNO Research data, among the top 10 hot-selling models in January, there were many Honor smartphone products, such as the Honor 60, Honor X30, Honor Play 30 Plus and Honor Play 20. The brand has also released its Magic 4 series globally at MWC 2022 in Barcelona, and its domestic product launch conference will be held on March 17.

Xiaomi‘s smartphones ranked fifth in sales in January, with volume decreasing by 12.7% year-on-year and increasing by 54.7% compared with last month. According to market feedback, the new Xiaomi 12 series, launched in December 2021, has not brought a noticeable sales contribution yet.
For Apple, although the sales volume of its smartphones declined slightly by 1.8% month-on-month in January, it was still increasing by 11.4% year-on-year. Among the models, the iPhone 13 won the sales champion in the domestic market for the fourth consecutive month with a volume exceeding 2.3 million units.
