The new “Aion UT Super,” jointly developed by JD Auto, GAC Group, and CATL, has officially made its debut. Branded as a “national people’s car,” the EV has drawn significant market attention thanks to its competitive pricing and innovative sales model. Under the battery-rental scheme, the limited-time offer starts at just USD 6,930 , while the full vehicle purchase option is priced at USD 12,486—making the model a potential dark horse in China’s crowded EV market.

On November 5, the first Aion UT Super rolled off the production line at GAC’s Changsha factory. It marks the first complete public reveal of the vehicle’s exterior design, manufacturing process, battery system, and swap-ready technology. The model was initially introduced during JD’s “Double 11 Open Day” on October 14, where JD Auto announced that it would exclusively sell the car on its platform, in partnership with CATL’s EVOGO battery service and GAC Group.

According to sources familiar with the collaboration, each partner plays a distinct role: JD provides consumer insights and builds the sales channels but does not participate in manufacturing; GAC handles vehicle production; and CATL supplies the battery technology and swap ecosystem. This “resource-integration and ecosystem co-building” model aims to deliver a seamless, full-lifecycle experience covering vehicle purchase, usage, and maintenance.

On October 23, the model was officially named “Aion UT Super.” Notably, a day earlier, the No. 001 “National People’s Car” edition sparked a bidding frenzy on JD Auction, attracting more than 260,000 participants and ultimately selling for RMB 78.19 million—an unusual but telling sign of public hype surrounding the vehicle. Whether this EV—backed by the combined strength of JD, GAC, and CATL—can carve out new consumption scenarios and truly become a nationwide bestseller remains a story to watch.
