BEIJING, Nov. 17 - JD.com has officially launched its "JD Review" platform and a new food delivery app, marking its formal entry into China's competitive local services market and setting up a three-way competition with Alibaba and Meituan.
Announced by founder Richard Liu at a corporate event in Sanya, the JD Review platform features five service categories: dining, hotels, shopping, travel, and home services. A key innovation is the "JD Authentic List," powered by what the company describes as China's first AI model specifically designed for service ratings. The system analyzes online content about restaurants and hotels to generate objective recommendations.
The platform integrates directly with JD's e-commerce and delivery systems, creating a closed-loop experience where users can read reviews and immediately place orders through JD's food delivery service. Company representatives emphasized that JD Review will never be commercialized, maintaining its focus on genuine consumer feedback.
The move signals a strategic shift in China's instant retail sector from competing on delivery speed and subsidies toward building comprehensive service ecosystems and establishing consumer trust. JD's entry follows recent moves by Alibaba's Amap with its "Street Sweeping List" and Meituan's relaunch of quality food delivery services.
Analysts note that JD's competitive advantage lies in leveraging its established supply chain infrastructure and existing user base to create differentiated, transaction-integrated review content rather than building a standalone content ecosystem from scratch.
