JD Logistics Puts Into Operation First Batch of Battery-Swapping NEVs
On August 15, JD Logistics announced that, as the first Chinese logistics enterprise to invest in battery-swapping EVs on a large scale, it has put its first batch of battery-swapping new energy vehicles (NEVs) into operation.
JD Logistics has already provided battery-swapping NEVs all over China, and it expects to put in 1,000 battery-swapping light trucks by the end of 2022. It is estimated that, through the overall battery-swapping solution of NEVs, JD Logistics could improve the power consumption ratio of energy storage in the logistics park by more than 25%, reduce the number of vehicles by more than 20%, further increase the carbon emission reduction of a single vehicle by more than 15%, and improve the comprehensive carbon emission reduction rate by more than 35%.
The battery-swapping mode was developed jointly by JD Logistics and New Way Car Service Company Limited, the first urban distribution logistics vehicle company in China.
This batch of urban distribution logistics vehicles that use standardized battery packs that are commonly used in all categories of vehicles. These battery packs can be upgraded to cleaner energy at any time, and their battery modules can be fully utilized in a gradual manner to maximize the value of battery energy saving and emission reduction. In addition, the supporting construction of mobile power exchange cabinets does not need to transform the power grid, and they can be quickly laid out and flexibly adjusted in the logistics park according to operation scenarios, and they can be connected with the distributed energy system in the park to further reduce overall carbon emissions.

By upgrading the logistics vehicles, JD Logistics can further reduce carbon emissions during logistics transportation, teaming up with upstream and downstream energy partners to realize the integrated energy-saving and emission reduction solution of “park + transportation + cascade utilization,” and accelerate the process of green zones and green transportation.
In addition, the battery-swapping mode greatly reduces the replenishment time of NEVs. For the same running duration, it takes three hours to fully charge a 4.2m van, but only five minutes for a new energy vehicle with the same specifications through the battery-swapping mode. While improving the efficiency of fleet transportation, the mode can also further optimize the fleet structure and effectively reduce operating costs.
