JD Logistics to Develop and Implement Thousands of Smart Delivery Vehicles Within 2-3 Years
The 2021 Global Smart Supply Chain (GSSC) summit hosted by JD Logistics was held in Beijing on Monday. Yu Yui, CEO of JD Logistics, said during the event that the 5.0 version of its Level-4 autonomous delivery vehicle is released. Furthermore, in the next two to three years, JD Logistics will continue to develop and put into use thousands of such vehicles.
According to Yu Yui, since 2020, JD Logistics smart delivery vehicles have covered 25 cities across China, accomplished 2 million orders, and played an important role in many key events.
JD Logistics, the shipping and delivery arm of JD.com, launched a robot delivery service in 2016, and completed its first operation in the world in 2017. In 2018, JD Logistics developed its brand-new L4 automated driving technology framework, upgraded the smart delivery vehicle to 4.0 version, realized no safety guard to be in the car by the end of 2019, and started normal operations on open roads after the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in 2020.
In recent years, JD Logistics has gradually completed the large-scale operation in communities and open roads. It assumes that the logistics industry will become the first scene where automated driving technology is widely commercialized.
According to JD Logistics, from 2018 to June 30, 2021, the company has invested nearly 7 billion yuan ($1.09 billion) in technology in a growing manner.
